New Office = Improvements … Right?

I would think so. When we move to a new office, it usually means that there were constructive change and massive improvements done to the company. Changes would involve accessible facilities and utilities, more space, more comfort, and more efficiency. Now how come I don’t feel so impressed with our new office?

The Workplace: I was more comfortable back at the old office. I didn’t have to squeeze myself in between wide chairs and feel like canned tuna. My workstation seemed a little more spacious back then. Now it’s like I can’t move much because I might disturb my seatmates.

The old office had  tiled floors. It gave off a clean setting to the place. Our new office’s floor, on the other hand, is covered with plastic tiles that add up to the rugged look the workplace has. Not that this is really an important matter. I just happened to notice it because it contributed to the rough look o the office.

Like I said earlier, the workstations are a bit cramped together. It’s like all we can do is just sit there and not move around much. It’s a pain to the body to have to sit for 9 hours and we’re not even given some space to stretch our legs or something.

All agents are now in one room. I expected the room to be wide and spacious. Turns out the Baluarte office in Iloilo was bigger. And with a lot of agents in one room, I guess we really are like canned tuna!

The Pantry: The water dispenser looks like it had a rough journey. The table is always spotted with coffee and food stains. For a room that should be clean and organized because it’s where we eat and relax ourselves, it’s not that… inviting.

The Restroom: No one would think about it unless they had to use it, but the restroom is vital. I hesitated to go in the restroom on my first trip there. It’s okay by normal standards, I guess — there’s running water and the toilet works. But it’s not clean enough for me to want to go there and relieve myself.

The Conference Room: Small. That’s all.

Honestly. You’d think being in an IT company means you get to have a cool workplace. Thats not the case here. I’m not going to go into details; I’ve encountered a lot of disappointments whenever it comes to moving. This is the fifth office of the company that I’ve been working in, and none got a “woah!” feeling from me.

I guess I’ll just have to do with the thought that this office isn’t the worst of them. There are repairs and improvements going on, too, so there may be hope yet for some touch-ups. I’m not going to anticipate, though. It’ll take a lot to impress me after the many disappointments.

Notes to Myself #1

I am quite behind my personal projects. During the past few days, I decided to make a list of everything I need to do and try to catch up to them in my free time. There were quite a lot. Some stuff I forgot and kept on postponing, some I had lined up but was left alone untouched.

1. Updates: Blogs (this isn’t the only one and I need to be more consistent in making updates), social sites and bookmarks, and blog directories

2. Education: Study new SEO strategies

3. Lists: Keep a list of the things I want to blog about.. (I have a notebook I carry with me always) … I’m a forgetful person and there may be things that I have overlooked.

It’s not just with the cyber world that I have a lot of pending projects. I’ve also decided to get back to indulging myself with my hobbies.

4. Scrapbooking: I don’t have all the materials, but I have the things I need to make a start already. The materials are just lying around.

5. Books: I missed the smell of the pages of a novel. And I still find it more relaxing to read from a book rather from the Web. There are books here at home I still haven’t read. They’re just lying around.

6. Sketching: I wonder if I still know how to draw. I bought a sketching pad, and soem color pencils. They’re just lying around.

7. Anime and Manga marathon: Now this is gonna take a lot of my time. I could watch anime while working on the computer but I wouldn’t be able to read all the subs when there are two screens that I have to look at (I don’t like dubbed). I already have a list of the anime and manga that I have to finish, and a lot more are added with the many updates my friends give me.

I really have to work on cutting back on my sleep.

Cramming With So Little Time

My PR went down. I guess I should’ve see it coming, especially since I haven’t made any updates or any interesting posts for this blog for quite some time now. I wasn’t able to focus on this blog as much as I’d like to. Too many external factors. I’m not happy with my attitude towards it either. I’ve been lacking in willpower to get things done lately that a lot of stuff has stacked up for me. So now I’m cramming on my tasks with so little time available.

I mentally made a list of everything I should be doing. Even if I disregard the not so important stuff — watching the movies and series I have lined up to watch, scrapbooking, and indulging in my hobbies — I’d still have a lot on my hands. My 8-hr job offers little space for me to make time for my personal tasks, and so does my household duties (which obviously takes me away from the computer longer than Iwould want).

I am especially feeling the pressure of more precise time management as the “-ber” months roll in. These months are expected to bring me to limit of hard work and diligence, not too mention patience. Within these months are a lot of occasions — birthdays (a lot of them that will render me financially broke), Christmas, etc. — that will definitely give me some headaches and exhaustion.

I’m also putting my plan of going back to school into action. If all goes well, I’ll be back to being a student by October or November. Talk about getting myself another headache. I swear I’m becoming such a pitiful worrywart.

Hopefully, though, I’ll be able to pull through. I’ve also made many backup plans with the support of my family. But the saying “The mind is willing but the body is weak” keeps haunting me. So little time, so much to do.
